residential / extension / retrofit
Studio Mint were appointed to prepare options to extend and alter Claremont Cottage. Claremont Cottage is an end-of-terrace dwelling dating from the late-1800s. The property retains many of its original features and is unique in its design, with the conservation area character statement describing it in the ‘Picturesque’ style. The projecting ground floor is constructed in rusticated ashlar, the first floor with French doors is accessed behind an ornate iron balcony and dainty iron columns which appear to support the projecting false mansard roof. The existing dwelling is to receive a whole-house retrofit to improve thermal performance, demolition of an existing poor-quality single storey extension and construction of a new extension to the rear of the property. The single storey extension will house the kitchen, breakfast table, shower and storeroom. Many of the original features will be retained, including dormer windows, iron railings, mansard roof and interior design elements.
